ecotalk KunststoffSymposium
On Thursday, June 24th 2010, from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm, the KunststoffSymposium (Synthetic Materials Symposium), an event within the scope of Saubermacher ecotalk, took place for the first time.
During the event, the around 65 participants, among them Court Councillor Dipl. Ing. Dr. Wilhelm Himmel of the Styrian provincial government, among others, had the opportunity to inform themselves about current topics and innovative solutions in the area of synthetic materials and to directly debate with the lecturers and experts.
Beside the presentation of the film “Plastik – billiger Stoff, hoher Preis” (“Synthetic materials – cheap material, high price”) and a practical workshop with Ing. Andreas Kazda, in which, among other things, the handling of a plastics detection device (infrared / surface-gap spark spectrometer) was demonstrated, there were numerous professional presentations of renowned representatives of the industry.
In his speech, the scientific expert for plastics processing and applications as well as Member of the Board of the IKV (Institute of Plastics Processing) at the University of Leoben, Univ. Prof. Dipl. Ing. Dr. mont. Clemens Holzer, gave a brief introduction into the world of synthetic materials and therein addressed the issue, why synthetic materials are not just plastics. Directly after this speech, Mag. Alfred Ledersteger of Saubermacher Dienstleistungs AG dealt with the subject in his speech, why it is no longer affordable today, to simply just burn synthetic materials.
After the lunch break and the practical workshop with Ing. Andreas Kazda, Dipl. Ing. Dr. mont. Roland Pomberger, likewise of Saubermacher Dienstleistungs AG, explained the advantages of production and use of substitute fuels manufactured from synthetic material wastes, which cannot be recycled, and used as high-quality energy sources in the industry.
After a short coffee break, the General Manager of PET to PET Recycling Österreich GmbH, Dipl. Ing. Christian Strasser, reported in his speech about the future-oriented solution of bottle-to-bottle recycling, the sustainability associated therewith, and his practical experience as a recycler.
The last speech of the day was held by Hon. Prof. Dr. Christoph Scharff, Spokesman for the Board of Altstoff Recycling Austria AG (ARA) about producer liability at the example of the ARA collection and utilisation of plastic packaging.
The visit of the high-tech sorting plant with Plant Manager Reinhard Fasching formed the end of the event.
