Hartberger Saubermacher: 15 years' successful waste disposal partnership.

SAUBERMACHER is the only company across Austria that is successfully implementing large-scale Public Private Partnerships (PPP) in municipal waste disposal. Hartberger Saubermacher is one of the outstanding examples for the cooperation between the private and public sectors.

This PPP was founded back in 1991 as a cooperation model. The Hartberg municipal authorities and Saubermacher each own 50% of the company. The catchment area is about 20,000 inhabitants. The main activity is the collection and recycling of municipal, commercial and hazardous waste. In addition to the adjacent organic compost facilities, Hartberger Saubermacher also operates its own waste business with its employees.

Dates & Facts:

- The Hartberger Saubermacher (HSM) is the very first PPP at Saubermacher.

- HSM operates in the district of Hartberg and in the adjacent Burgenland.

- Main tasks: municipal and commercial disposal, building site disposal and food disposal (kitchen waste via two biogas plants at the Hartberg site).

- About half of the residents from the Hartberg district use the disposal facilities.

- 18 employees.

- 4 refuse compression vehicles, 1 hook train, 1 settling container wagon, 1 box wagon with loading board wall and ADR-equipment.- At the site: unloading crates, platform scales, biogas facility and residual building materials refuse site.

- HSM presents itself to the districts as the "one-stop shop disposal company" - and also to commercial companies in cooperation with Saubermacher Dienstleistungs AG. This means that Hartberger Saubermacher is the contact for customers and it can also offer services in accordance with the Saubermacher standards.

- HSM possesses the quality certifications (EfB, ISO 14001 and 9001).

- HSM has a share in the biogas facility (Biokraft Hartberg Engergieproduktions GmbH) and operates it whereby Hartberger SM is the operator of the site.- HSM generates at full operation of the plant about 400 kW per hour of ecological electricity and heat for the heating network of the eco-park.

All in all this is a disposal partnership or in other words a cooperative venture that has been working very successfully for many years.
