Saubermacher at the summit of it`s dreams

A great success for Saubermacher was the Everest environmental expedition. Forty, one hundred litre sacks were filled with garbage from the Mt. Everest massif and brought to Lhasa and Kathmandu and disposed of, by a team led by Wolfgang Fasching, the extreme sportsman and twice-winner of the race across America.

Cleaning the "Roof of the World"

For the year 2001 Saubermacher had met itself an enormous environmental challenge: To collect one part of the massive mountain of garbage, which had been left at the base camp of Mt. Everest by previous expeditions over the last years, from the "roof of the world" and bring it down into the valley. This breathtaking project was successfully completed - the mountain was "cleaned" in a twofold way.

Rubbish-Collecting May 2001

On the 23rd of May 2001 Wolfgang Fasching and his five comrades were standing on the highest point in the world after an adventurous climb. Back at the base camp, after a short period of recuperation, the big cleanup operation began, and so Fasching and his colleagues collected the rubbish under extreme conditions using Saubermacher sacks.

Setting an Example

"The only sad part of it was", Fasching states, "that at first other expeditions and Sherpas looked upon our garbage collection activities without comprehension and with much shaking of heads. But maybe we still managed to prick some guilty consciences from these people by setting an example."

The garbage was at first transported by pack animals and then on by lorry to Kathmandu and was after that deposited in accordance with the regulations.
