THE HANS ROTH ENVIRONMENTAL AWARD

The Hans Roth Environmental Award has been issued every year for outstanding Bachelor or Master's theses and dissertations since 2005.

The aim is to promote the exchange between science, business and technology for the benefit of environmental protection. Young researchers who further develop recycling concepts and pay attention to practical applicability have particularly good chances of winning one of the awards each endowed with €2,000.

The award winners are selected by an independent jury consisting of illustrious environmental experts from business, science, chambers and ministries.

The 2015 award winners

Dipl. Ing. Astrid Allesch, TU Vienna, impressed the jury with her "Benchmarking in the Austrian waste management industry" paper. The research results are of huge importance for the industry, was the justification. Allesch skilfully solved the difficult initial situation methodically.

DI (FH) DI Marlies Hrad, BOKU Vienna, is awarded for her scientific paper on "Quantifying methane emissions at waste treatment plants using laser spectrometry and an inverse propagation modelling". The jury particularly highlights the applicability for the waste management industry and other sectors here.

Martina Zimek, MSc, KF Uni Graz, successfully dealt with "Initiatives for avoiding food waste at consumer level – qualitative and quantitative analysis of the initiative in Styria during 2011 and 2013 and recommended action for the future." "An issue of great social importance," praises the jury.

Dipl. Ing. Dr. Renato Sarc, Montanuni Leoben, enriches waste management with the dissertation "Manufacturing, quality and quality assurance of substitute fuels to achieve 100% thermal substitution in the cement industry." The jurors were impressed by the comprehensive, complex paper and its major importance for industry.
